    [Highly rated reviewer]

In this new millenia, the special effects and storylines from this 60's classic can seem laughable.

But if you are of a certain age when this was series aired on the BBC, then nothing (except maybe Dr. Who) compares with the magic. The brilliant colours, the memorable signature tune, the whacky creatures, the pompous Kirk and his vampire-like Vulcan sidekick, the miniskirts, the fake accents...sheer adolescent heaven.

The re-mastered effects option makes origional Star Trek look a great deal better! It was fun to watch as long as you remember that they were made in the 1960's, long before the words politicly and correct were put together.

Women in mini-skirts and enough hairspray to destroy the ozone layer! Technology that makes even my mobile phone look good!

Enjoy with a boulder of salt!

Obviously dated but my 9 and 12 year olds liked the first few episodes. Unfortunately none of these featured the Vulcan death grip that I had practiced on them. Ultimately more enjoyable for the parents than for the kids.

Classic and you will never get bored with this series if you are a Trekky. They never bettered these originals in my view. Simple ideas and it's not too difficult to see the pro American, anti-communist stance seeping through. The series also has that annoying human worship so typical of American films. As if the aliens in the rest of the universe are so lucky we contacted them. 'we find you here where no-one has any right to be', says Jim, failing to see the irony in his statement. Forget the politics and just enjoy this brilliant fantasy.

The quality of the reworked digitised original series is superb. With enhanced sound quality it takes you back to when stories were simple but absorbing.

It was great to see the original versions of these classic episodes again. Unfortunately, unlike season one, these are not the remastered versions and, after having viewed the remastered season one and the versions, these do suffer from not having had the same treatment.

It would appear that, thus far, the remastered season 2 discs are unavailable for rental and these are being despatched.

Nothing really wrong in that, but there is an imbalance in viewing improved season ine eoisodes and then having the return to the original episodes for season 2.

Anyway, most of the episodes on disc one were excellent and improved on what took place on the initial season. However, as the season progresses, some of the episodes become less impressive but do have some excellent acting in them

Overall, not bad. But could have been the remastered versions.
