Even if your not a fan, its almost worth watching just for how bad the sets are; the acting leaves a bit to be disired, but who cares? enjoy the classic capers with all the faults. It really highlights how far program making and those special effects have really come. The picture is now great, the sound is improved as well, but don't expect any wonders in that department.

Sit back, relax, and visit a real time machine in the shape of this series. Enjoy.

I remember very well watching these episodes of the final season of the original Star Trek series quite a few years back now. Watching them again on Blu-Ray, I am pleased at the visual quality of the remastered discs and the enhanced 5:1 audio sound. Of course, they look dated, especially the 1960s ladies costumes, but that is part of the charm which the original Star Trek excudes.

Of the five episodes of disc one, I liked four of them, the first one Spock's Brain is a little dull, lacking in sparkle and excitement. And The Children Shall Lead is a fine episode, with some minor horrors being perpetuated by children who have been influenced by an evil alien. Is There No Truth In Beauty? is perhaps the best episode of disc one. A fine episode, one of the best in the series, exploring the relationship between Miranda (Diana Muldaur) and Kirk and the strange alien being who lives in a metal box because the aliens energy is too powerful and ugly to be seen by human eyes, and who can drive men mad by a glimpse.

I will be looking forward to seeing the rest of the series, and bearing in mind it was the last of the three series made of the original series, it remains enjoyable viewing today, especially with digitally enhanced effects.

People knock it because of the special effects but they aren't half as bad as they say they are and what do you expect for the budget anyway. They are brilliant, good acting, great chemistry and lots of action, romance, laughs and tears. Recommended to anyone.

Yes the sets are shaky. Yes some of the dialogue has dated. Yes, its 40 years old! but... This was the original and best Star Trek that launched a 40+ year run. Do you really think any other sci fi shows of the time will be as readily available on DVD. That says something. You've got to watch these.
