I didn't think things could get much worse that the Scott Bakula vehicle of 'Enterprise', but it looks like they just have. Bring back Patrick Stewart!
A real surprise - this film is totally awesome! A cunningly orchestrated (and plotted) reboot of the original Star Trek, this film delivers on all fronts. Superb designs and effects that bring Star Trek up to date whilst still keeping the feel of the original (there's no difficulty accepting this is the same world as the classic), whilst fleshing out the world and characters. It's a lot more believable and less cliched / 2D than the original, as we see far more depth within each character. Bana is, of course, fantastic and supremely intense as one of the best villains in the series. This film will be well enjoyed by a wide audience, whilst pleasing fans (there are many many wee nods in there - I'm sure far more than I could ever pick up!). And the score! Wow! Michael Giacchino has done an amazing job creating the atmosphere for this more rough and 'real' film, whilst relating it well to the TV series. An all round winner! Orci and Kurtzman have penned fantastic, fun and intelligent re-imaginings of Transformers and now Star Trek. It will be interesting to see where they go from here (both with the Star Trek characters, Transformers, and other projects!)...

Still, I’m pretty sure the Lost guru has come up with a formula that is going to click with... Read more
