Season 5 is something of a wrap it up in a bow season, there are lots of stories that are finished, we've just finished with the replicators, the wraith are at war, and Michael is finally subdued.

Woolsey replaces Carter, and is charming and funny, but somehow I i always felt he was too aloof for this Stargate.

The season and series Finale is a little trite, but nonetheless is a good way for the show to finish.

and as ever the good guys win again.

Overall Stargate is the sci-fi franchise that never took itself too seriously, and that has often aided it's longevity. It's light and frothy, and well watchable.

However if you want to challenged watch the recent rendition of Battlestar Galatica (before it got a little overconvoluted and pompous), or if you want the mixture of humour , pathos and some darkness, Joss Whedon short lived (but much loved) series Firefly is definitely the place to go
