stark is a story worth telling. the movie is slightly cringe-worthy 80's, but i enjoyed it nonethe-less.
& for once.. a better ending than the book by the same name :-)- Was this review helpful to you?

If you're a Ben Elton fan, get this now!!
By epicrant (25 reviews) from Haywards Heath , 10 Feb 2010I'm writing this review from the point of view of a Ben Elton fan. I understand a lot of people don't like him but I'm one of those people who genuinely rates the guy's talent. I would nostalgically cut off my right arm to see 'The Man from Aunty' again. Yes, I know he's 'sold out' somewhat, but, come on. Everyone gets old eventually.
The script is not as sharp as Blackadder or anything, nor is it as funny as The Thin Blue Line. It doesn't intend to be. This is much more like watching one of Ben's novels play out in front of you. A great story, with some funny moments and some quite contrived dialogue. And some slightly iffy acting.
Don't let that put you off though! I urge you to give this a watch for a few reasons, the most important of which is the fact that it is an obscure old title. If we don't rent them, LOVEFILM won't stock them, and we'll be left with a selection no better than Blockbuster. You wouldn't want that would you?
It is also a great little story and an underrated gem, with an important message included into the bargain. If you liked any of Ben's novels, you'd be a fool to miss this.- Was this review helpful to you?

Ben Eltons Finest Work!
By simon kitt from London , 16 Sep 2007If ben elton still wrote like this i would
most certainly be buying his work,
i think its fair to say he has lost it
somewhat these days along with
gridlock this was one of his finest
works, and lays onto film with just
the same impact the novel had,
a genuinely scary but no less funny
take on a end of world senario from
a perspective you cant help but relate
to see this film read the book, i wonder
if when capitalism fails something like
this really happens...- Was this review helpful to you?
