A Treat for Gangster Fans!By Cannibal from kent , 29 Jan 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]As gangster films go this is an underrated classic! For a start, there's the cast: Sean Penn, Ed Harris and Gary Oldman (in what is arguably one of his best roles). The plot may sound a little cliched - undercover cop sent to infiltrate old gangster friends - but everything about this film is slick, suspensful and sexy! Occasionally shockingly violent with a sweeping, haunting score (particularly in the final sequence) by Ennio Morricone this film has plenty to recommend it.

BrilliantBy Rubydoo (53 reviews) from Whitehaven , 05 Jul 2008I love this film and watched it years ago and just rented it again for another look.
Gary Oldman and Ed Harris, does it get any better. Along with Sean Penn, this film is engrossing, very violent and very sad. This is a must see at all costs!!!
a good early 90s film with a stellar castBy MUNCH (138 reviews) from Gorebridge , 03 Apr 2008This is the story of the demise of the Flannery gang in New Yorks Hells Kitchen.
The film is pacey with good action etc but what i liked most was watching the young faces of Sean penn Gary Oldman and Ed Harris along with John Turterro and John C Reilly from Boogie nights fame
This is an above average film well worth the watch.
Okay, but I've seen much betterBy Bubs (1 review) from Birmingham , 31 Jan 2008The ultimate cliche of the mob movie genre. This type of movie has been done so much better, (Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, The Departed to name but a few), but it's still worth a watch, (although it lack the class of the aformentioned titles). Great cast! I thought Gary Oldman was brilliant in this film.
Farmboy is way off the markBy a customer from Leeds , 04 Dec 2007He couldn't be more wrong with his comments. Oldman is over the top but that is because he is supposed to be. Great role and possibly his best after Leon and Romeo is bleeding. Penn is suberb and Harris may have been underrated at this time but since this film his stature matches his talent.
don't listen to the farmboy and rent this you won't regret it.
