'Staying On' was not what I expected it be like. Because I thought it was a sequal up to 'Jewel In The Crown' I probably thought it would a follow up at least on some of the characters in that great series. So on that score I was a little disappointed, however, the film did have a charm of its own.
It was clear that this husband and wife who decided to 'stay on' when the English left India did retain some respect and loyalty but also met with some resentment. Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson were really wonderful as the husband and wife who 'stayed on'and the scenery was breath taking. I did not realise that India is beautiful. I am glad I have seen this but it is not a one that I would consider as one of my favourites.
