    [Highly rated reviewer]

I was underwhelmed. It looked pretty, but there was no science to speak of. I learned nothing except some insights in to Hawking's imagination, which was mildly interesting, but not enough to sustain my attention for very long.

I do admit, I only watched the first two episodes - life on other planets, and time travel. Sadly that was enough to convince me I was not going to get a lot out of the remaining episodes. Lots of big ideas are thrown about but are not explained in the least detail.

Perhaps I missed Mr Hawkings 'explaining some of the most complex theories' - I think 'glossed over' would be a more accurate description.

  • Great examples to help you imagine some hard to imagine concepts

I really love these sort of documentaries because they send my mind into overdrive thinking about stuff.

What I particularly liked about this one is that it explains some very complex ideas and theories by using examples that we can all understand and can visually see. Really helped to get a better understanding of some theories I knew about but found hard to imagine.

Great to watch and I was left wishing there was more of it.

If you find the theory of everything coming from nothing challenging or the concept that legging it round a black hole at close to the speed of light will enable you to Time Travel - tricky– don’t worry, your not alone, speaking of which, this series does touch on the prospect of alien life – although, as you’d expect from someone who’s underpants could probably claim to have a higher IQ than most of us just by gracing his undercarriage, he does it in a serious intellectual-ish fashion! Hawkins has a good story to tell and does it with humour, makes it accessible and isn’t too smug about how clever he is – he presumes you already know! The truth is, even after watching the series, twice over, you may still be a little befuddled by it all. However, as you sit with interest watching different theories presented at you in virtual form, with thanks to magnificent computer generated animation, you will definitely feel a bit smarter – until you try and elucidate the specifics to your mates down the pub and realise your really not as clever as you thought!
