This DVD recaptures most of the magic of the New York staged production. The cast is uniformly exellent and the picture and sound fine.
As this a musical with many hidden depths and meanings - not to mention some wonderful melodies - the whole programme can be recommended wholeheartedly.
A wonderful adaptation of a Sondheim classic; a play taking in well known fairy tale characters and putting them into one play with some more serious themes.
Stage legend Bernadette Peters is spot on as the witch and Joanna Gleeson's performance as the Baker's wife is superb.
A wonderful supporting cast rounds out the show and is one of the most amusing and enjoyable romps through this play I have seen.
Well worth watching if you are a fan of musical theatre.
