I was surprised to see considering how this is a comedy, how much tragedy was involved in these early episodes. 'Steptoe and son' alwys trod the fine line between Pathos and humnour but the moment in the pilot episode when Harold can't move the cart is such an impassioned performance, it almost moves you to tears. So much more dynamic than what you'd get from a lot of today's comedy. Great stuff.
Brilliant considering the comedy partnership have only just joined forces for this, the first series.
Obviously after this series they seemed to gel together more, but still some very, very entertaining moments.
Brilliantly written and acted, well worth a watch, EXCELLENT.
