    Absolutely classic!

As a kid, I grew up with my dad watching Steptoe and Son.

As a result, it has become my fave tv show of all time.

The christmas episodes go into my player in December every year. They are still so funny, and christmassy. After all this time, nothing can match up to them to guarantee a seasonal feeling and a comic look at the traditions of Xmas.

    Simply brilliant!

Steptoe & Son - The Christmas Specials

I am a huge fan of British comedy and have become a fan of Steptoe & son by watching the DVD's. These christmas specials are the last episodes i needed to watch having seen all of the series. The first of these was aired in 1973, with the second one aired the following year, in what turned out to be the final episode.

I have to say that i was dissapointed by the 1973 special, which i thought was one of the weakest episodes ever, possibly even the worst episode ever made. There is a heavy emphasis on christmas, which is routine for most christmas specials, but given that Steptoe & Son was known for dramatic moments as well as its funny moments, it feels a little out of place. The story is nothing special and most of the jokes are predictable, especially if your as familiar with the characters as i am.

The second episode shares a very similiar story but is a much stronger episode. Though not the best by any means, it feels a little less like Steptoe by the numbers. It has it's funny moments with both characters palying up to their stereotype to perfection.

Even though people who are new to Steptoe & Son would be much better off starting with earlier episodes (i would suggest starting with series 3 to see the show in it's glory years), these episodes are still worth watching, but mainly for people like me who have seen all the series and just want to finish it off.
