Stewart Lee - Stand Up Comedian Details

Not really worth the effort afraid

After rightly gaining a huge amount of critical acclaim for Jerry Springer the opera - Lee was well placed to make a big 'return to his roots' standup DVD. Sadly with this set, delivered infront of small well behaved audience in Glasgow he's proved himself to be nothing special. He's undoubtedly clever, but his style is very much based on telling us all that that's the case with a teacher like turn of phrase. His 'Kill Jimmy Hill' rant against racism is delivered with niether the passion to nail the political point or silliness to get big laughs. If anything it had the feel of a well written student union speech. (It's no surprise when Lee references the Nestle ban) This combination of half hearted politics and lack of basic likeability makes for a long slog of comedy which - the odd appreciative chuckle aside - is rarely worth the effort Lee asks of us.

i have followed stuart lee for a while now, and its about time he brought a dvd out.

If you have never seen him do stand up, this is a great introduction.
