As Sidney Poitier's direction and a firm script all but vanish beneath the clowning, Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder (again playing the cynic and the innocent) are, according to your taste and viewpoint, either highly creative or contrived, witty or noisy, inspired or tedious. Relying more on mugging than acting (especially in the second half), they play a couple of goons who leave New York for California and are wrongly imprisoned for a bank robbery en route. To give the film its due, prison clichés are cleverly lampooned here with wild invention, and Pryor's chicken scene is one that will last.
Extended farce giving rather too free rein to its stars' potential for mugging, and polishing up every prison gag in the book.
Repeating the teaming first aired in Silver Streak, Pryor plays a street-sussed cynic, the perfect foil to Wilder's (by... read more on Time Out
Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor team up again in this comic tale of two guy's wrongly accused of a crime and sentenced to jail. I cannot stress how much you should rent this title.
I also recommend See No Evil, Hear No Evil as the comedy is very similar.
Two New Yorkers, with no jobs and no prospects, decide to flee the city and find work elsewhere. But when they're mistaken for bank robbers, they don't have to worry about employment -- they're sent to prison! Soon our heroes are trying to make the best of a bad situation -- because with 120 year sentences, it sure doesn't look as though they're getting out anytime soon.
Stir Crazy is a great Comedy, the best Film that Richard Pryor and Wilder have done, and thats saying something as Hear No Evil See No Evil was a great comedy too, Ive watched this movie 5 times and can watch again its that good, so rent it if you get the chance, you dont know what your are missing.

This must be one of the funniest films of all time, Pryor and Wilder always work well together and this is no exception. Order it and you will watch it over and over and over again.

This is simply the funniest movie I have ever seen. If you only get one comedy movie, get this one - you wont be dissapointed.
One of the classics, it must be nice to be Crazy :D
This is the comedy genius of Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor at it's magnificent best.
Every now and then a film is released which just always remains timeless and this is one of those on the comedy front, as funny now as when it was first released.
This is classic duo comedy at its best, along with silver streak and see no evil hear no evil there ought to be a trilogy box set of these 3 movies.
And a special edition of this would be cool as it only features a filmography.
Would love to see this on Superbit also!!
Rent now!! for a great laugh!!
