Youth-oriented musical drama. DJ Williams (Columbus Short) is a 19-year-old growing up in Los Angeles. While he is a good kid and a gifted street dancer, he runs with a dangerous crowd, and one night an underground dance competition turns into a brawl and DJ ends up in jail. DJ's younger brother has already died a violent death, and his mother, hoping to put him back on the straight and narrow, sends DJ off to Truth University, a historically African-American college in Atlanta. He hasn't been in college for a day before he's entranced by the lovely April (Meagan Good). Working as a gardener to pay the bills, DJ doesn't fit in with the wealthier students around campus, but one thing does catch his attention - the rival fraternity competition known as 'stepping'. With April's help, DJ learns about the legacy and heritage behind the fraternities and decides to join up. Now part of an official step group, DJ now must balance rehearsals, work, and school, while at the same time winning the heart of the girl of his dreams.

Really good dance flick!!

I really enjoyed this movie: good story, superb characters and really smashing dance moves! The only problem with this movie is that it lacked identity. It could very well have been one of the typical Hollywood College films with white kids in it!

Cant remember watching this movie sorry. But seen them on tv and they were good. So ordered the second version to remind me.

Mmmmhhh not great.

I mainly rented this because I love Chris Brown. He is the best bit of the movie; however it is really predictable to guess what's going to happen to him. Columbus Short is also good & sexy hot but the rest is a bit weak. The storyline is really predictable, Neyo is awful (I hope he is gonna stick to his music) & the dancing was a bit boring & weird at times. Seen better from Step Up to You Got Served

It was ok, the story was predictable and nothing new. A lot of stomping gang war type of dance, a bit annoying at times!

Surprisingly good

I rented this having seen & liked Columbus Short in Cadillac Records. The dance scenes are tremendous as I expected but the whole film is really well shot & the cast is excellent.

Looking forward to the sequel!
