    [Highly rated reviewer]

I loved Urban Legend. I hated Valentine. So, which way was Jamie Blanks, director of both, going to go with this? Well, he simply went and tried something a bit different- and successfully so.

Make no mistake, the cheap scares are gone and in their place the gore factor has been cranked up to 11. It is a brutal film, there is no denying it- and if the version I saw was not the extreme one, then I don't know where they could have gone and made it more horrific.

So, enough warning there for the squeamish. If you are looking for a bit of a story line, it is here. Flimsy as it may be, it does give the film some sincerity and turns the table on the old horror survival yarn, as this time the tormentors are in for a rough ride after humiliating and violating a couple (stranded in the middle of nowhere after a boating trip, the classic setup...).

A great female lead and a turny, seriously twisted revenge fest make this film definitely worth watching. Just don't try and use your brain too much.

Yeah, yeah - we all know the stuff about how even the middle classes are capable of unspeakable violence in the right circumstances. There have been graphic films about that for at least 40 years. So nothing new here then. Well, perhaps what is new is just how horrible the revenge deaths are compared to the pain meted out to our 'heroes'. You kind of feel sorry for the bad guys by the end.

To sum up the plot, a dense barrister (he even has trouble using a light switch) and his moaning younger girlfriend end up in the wilds, at the mercy of the local crazies. While the barrister does not manage to do a single helpful thing, his other half transforms. She goes from a French artist too simple to realise that if you are cold, zipping up your wet suit might help, to a cross between MacGyver and Rambo. Blood-drenched silliness ensues. I'll give it a star more than it deserves because I believe it has its tongue in its cheek -surely?

This film would not play on Sony Blu-Ray player - other review states this would not play on PS3 also. Waste of a rental!

Definitely worth renting - watch it very late at night, and you'll get the full effect.

Most people have reviewed this as crap, HOWEVER , at some points I was biting my lips and going 'GO ON! GO ON!' in sheer delight - I actually really enjoyed it !

3 stars for being good enough, but wasn't FAB if you know what I mean

  • Does not live up to the blurb

First thing to say is that this is not a shocking film. Its a bog standard slasher. Nothing is ground breaking or the worst thing ever filmed. Its ok - a couple get lost and slashed up by rednecks etc. Acting is fine, pace good, plot predictable. Gore fest is 3 out of 10. Nothing to trouble the average viewer of Emmerdale.
