  • Not bad, but nothing special

Gay actor in the fifties gets caught in action, must marry secretary, who is quite blond in best sense of the cliche. Gay guy meets other gay guy and fell in love.

Fun, as everything is overdone, with bright colours and cheap interior. But some of the humour are a bit hard to connect as too much truth about the difficult hidden life of gay actors in that times swung with it.

The acting is okay, with the exception of Adam Geer as the love object and Veronica Cartwright (the girl Cathy Brenner from 'The Birds' 1963) as busy agent. Both act considerable over standard.

Nice to watch, but not the best gay comedy.

'Straight Jacket' isn't your usual Gay film, in fact, it isn't your usual film - period.....

It is filmed as a cartoon type of film, not animated, but with real people.

Funny in parts and some good one-lines, it will amuse you, but won't have you in stitches.

nothing great, sweet little movie that made me smile, cheesy, camp and a hint of serious .....love the sets, color tone and the play like feel, well, it is based on a play. Don't expect too much, just enjoy

  • They should have been in one!

Not at all as I was expecting. The plot leaves a lot to be desired, as does the acting and sets.

If all films were like this I would go back to reading books.

To sum it up in one word: AWFUL.

  • Tedium in the extreme

It took every ounce of will-power to make myself watch this to the end. Somewhere in there there's a plot about the McCarthy era and its witch-hunt against commies with gays being a co-factor. If the acting was meant to be tongue in cheek then it succeeded, and is it just me or were some of the exterior shots computer generated? The whole thing comes over as cheap, cheap, cheap, which is surprising considering the huge list of credits at the end. Was there anyone left in Hollywood to make films whilst this one was being made? Rent this at your peril ( or only if you are looking for a cure for your insomnia!)

apart from a tour de force performance by Carrie Preston who steals the film. The acting of the rest of the cast was OK and the director should have got more from his male leads who were very wooden at times in their acting.
