Straw Dogs

Given the current hollywood attitude to not come up with any original stories. Re-makes work with huge differences of quality. I was cycnical whether they could be faithful to ramp up the unsetteling character I remember from the Pecinpah original. A friend watched it and reassured me this is a re-make worth watching. I was impressed it transfers very well to the American south and with an ensemble cast you don't ever quite trust. This is a very good re-telling of a film that didn't quite work first time around.

This is in my top 5 as one of the best movies I have ever seen!! I have not seen the original and I needn't be bothered about that because after seeing this I doubt even the original could top the genius of this. I didn't quite know what to expect when I hired this movie. I got it because of the home invasion genre which is the most realistic genre of movies in that they make the viewer feel like we are actually in the room with them. But without entering spoilers this movie is quite different. From the opening you can feel the suspense and truly believe in the characters. The acting is purely superb as is the walking on wire direction. A truly clever idea of a movie that is very very realistic and grips you in its entirety. The ending was completely unexpected for me and goes down as one of the best endings in movie history in that it is surprisingly unexpected and damn right satisfying. Excellent effects all round during the final scenes. There is not one dull moment in this movie and is totally unpredictable with some genius twists. You can smell the fear coming from the 2 terrified main characters. Some disturbing scenes but in the best possible context. Truly brilliant.

Not good this film too gruesome for me..like someone else said be prepared to look away..it's not even worthy of one star..

having seen the original thought maybe give this remake a viewing,dont know what a great actor like james woods was thinking of to appear in it, for a wet sunday afternoon it passes the time but give me the dustin hofman version anytime.

As a long term supporter of Sam Peckinpah I started watching this version with reservations,however if you've not seen the original it is a good home invasion thriller,moving the location to the American South worked well in my opinion,I still prefer the original,but a good effort all round.
