    Excellent

I can't think why I requested this but I'm very glad I did as it was one of the best films I've seen this year. The characters were excellently cast - especially the young actor playing 'Ivan'. True, the storyline got nowhere very fast but anyone who has lived through the Second World War and its aftermath will realise that its very believable. Direction, lighting, cinematography, acting and music all excellent.

I did think there would be more dreadful war scenes but thankfully these were all conveyed in looks and tones of voice rather than visually depicting them.

Engaging Wartime Drama with Fine Acting

This French film revolves around teh relationship between three key characters: a young widowed mother, her young son, and a helpful - but damaged and secretive - stranger. The young man comes into their lives when he helps them escape from German bombers, before leading them to an abandoned house in the French countryside. There they set up temprorary home, and the tension starts to build around the young stranger's behaviour and background. Fine acting compliments the stunning countryside to ensure that you care for the characters and have a genuine interest in their well-being. High recommended viewing for those wanting a character-led drama that is beautiful to watch and keeps you guessing until the end.
