A relatively standard reportage style documentary on the campaign trail which is both a riveting page on American politics. I'd recommend this in a trio with the original All The King's Men and The Candidate because they tie in together.
ATKM is very much about the nature of the machine and how it corrupts. The Candidate is a deconstruction of the political machine and Street Fight is the reality of both at that same local level. It's a cliche about stranger than fiction and at times I was literally gobsmacked at what was going on because I attributed this kind of behaviour to at least thirty years ago.
It's simple but effective. After watching the film I did some reading up on the subject and if you do watch this film I recommend going on to read about what has happened to both candidates in the years since.
