A load of reviews on here seem to be along the lines of 'I watched 5 minutes and it wasn't realistic'. These people have entirely missed the point of the whole film. The marionnetes are supposed to be unrealistic, if you would watch the actual film you would realise that the whole film relies on this fact. The film centers on a world inhabited by puppets who realise they are puppets. They are kept alive by the strings which hold them up and if these strings are cut, they die. The film makes incredibly original use of this fact, and the accentuated, thick strings covering every scene make for some truly beautiful imagery. The story may not be the most original ever, it's standard childrens' film fare, but the world of the marionnetes, combined with knowing how much skill and effort has gone into every shot (the film took over four years to complete), make watching this film a fascinating experience. Rent it, and don't forget to watch 'The World of Strings' in the special features for interesting information on the making of the film.
If you have a fear of puppets, do not under any circumstances rent this movie!! Just watch the trailer, it tells you everything you need to know.
