As much as I've liked Miikes previous offerings, and as much as I wanted to like this, I couldn't. Its the classic good vs bad, rivals vs rivals storyline familiar with most westerns, but with Miikes Japanese twist. I don't need to detail the plot any more as we all know how these stories go. The most annoying thing about the film is that the Japanese actors speak in English (if thats what you can call it) and they are impossible to understand. I had to use the English subtitles to know what they were saying! The clash of cultures does not make for a refreshing twist on a classic genre. Its a real celluloid car crash. For die hard fans only. Oh, and Tarantino can't act for toffee, if you didn't already know.

I liked it and maybe watch again. It's a Japanese spaghetti western with a good story, and yes the actors have a Japanese accent.

Absolute rubbish. Bad Japanese actors who can barely speak English. Would have been better if it was in Japanese with subtitles. Very poor Tarantino. Watch Yojimbo instead for some classic cinema.

What a pecular film. Don't even know why I watched it to the end. A total mix up of A fist Full of Dollars and kung fu, but not in a good why. Only to be watched if you very little else to do.

Very eclectic far out type of western that blends Japan with Wild West. Opening sequence looks distinctly gay looking like something out of Querelle. Then the film goes on like it thinks it is High Plains Drifter and Fistful of Dollars and it takes a while before it gets into its Django mode. There are scenes recalling Once Upon a Time in The West and probably at least half dozen other westerns. All signs are Japanese and so is the architecture so I don't know why they speak in English and claim the action takes place in Nevada (maybe because of the golden treasure everybody is after). Presence of Quentin Tarantino who even seems to suggest that he should be Japanese too is sporadically prominent. The plot is fair though and it looks good with some typically Asian special effects. I wouldn't say it's comedy. Odd and watchable. (Oh and sukiyaki is made of beef and tofu). You have to ask yourself one question. 'What were they on when they made it?'
