Bachelor Boy Cliff Richard is still making hit records nearly 40 years after this high-spirited romp. It's unlikely that his knighthood was awarded solely on the strength of this wholesome road movie (the less than august debut of director Peter Yates), in which four youths cross Europe in a London Transport double-decker bus. But there are plenty of fondly remembered songs, some splendid scenery and a willing supporting cast that includes Melvyn Hayes, who would again be upstaged by a bus later in his career as Alfred in the classic TV series The Double Deckers.
As guys'n'gals commandeer a red London bus and head Europe-wards for sun, it's easy to mock the put-on jollity of it... read more on Time Out
Young Ones
The Shadows come off best here with their few lines and great instrumentals undermining the potential datedness of pop stars' movie appearances. However Cliff really rocks and even if the cinematic techniques would be bettered in the follow-up Summer Holiday, the music is just superb.
Just remember the great songs and the unbelievably handsome Cliff!
Wonderful Life
A truly nonsenscial muscial comedy, it's nevertheless Cliff Richard's best in the musical genre. ( He did a couple of dramatic films which were his best) A rather bland singer competing with his similar American counterparts Elvis Presley and Frankie Avalon, Richards fared no better than they in comedy and musical scripts. This one at least contains Susan Hampshire and Walter Slezak. What makes this movie so entertaining is the zippy pace and the surprisingly great dancing and choreography. The big dance number on the set by the whole crew is spectacular and rivals 'West Side Story'. Incidentally, the long-legged Richards keeps right up with the rest of them and does even better at it than his singing! The cute little send-up of the history of the movies is also very entertaining.
Cliff and the gang serve up two delightful movies. If you're a fan these films are a must - Cliff at his all singing, all dancing best.
Light hearted fun all the way.
