This starts as a ...
By Ian#51 from EDINBURGH , 01 Apr 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
This starts as a seductive film were we are bourne along on an escapist dream of you love and lust. The fact that characters are working class means that this is more interesting than its British and American contemporaries. This is no romantic rites of passage. It ends in grim reality- Was this review helpful to you?

(10)NOT A GAY FILM
By Culomojada (4 reviews) from stocksfield , 15 Feb 2013If you search under the 'Gay and Lesbian' filter, this film will come up! Gawd only knows how this has happened but suffice to say if you are looking for some guy on guy or girl on girl action this is not the movie for you. Having said that, its defo worth a watch. Evocative, moody, beautiful. Could this be why its gay?- Was this review helpful to you?

Like Walkabout, a teenage boy's wet dream.
By Oldbloke (308 reviews) from Sidmouth , 29 Dec 2011Two restless teenagers Harry and Monica, unhappy with both their homelives and their jobs skip the city on his father's boat and spend an idyllic few weeks? on a remote island. By the time the short summer comes to an end, she is pregnant and they must return and face the harsh realities of life. There, the flighty, free-spirited but selfish Monica rejects the hardships of family existence and deserts, leaving Harry with the child. Nobody was making movies like this in the early 50's and if the story is mundane, the telling of it is anything but. Beautifully shot, the excitement of young love is captured to perfection and Harriet Anderson's bewitching Monica is unforgettable as is the optimistic last scene where the boy with his baby in his arms looks in the mirror and sees the man he has become.- Was this review helpful to you?

Simple and pure film making
By arkafka (10 reviews) from london , 29 Apr 2011Beautifully realised movie, simple but beguiling with two excellent leads. Bergmans control of pace may not be to everyones liking, but i have yet to feel let down by anything the guy has done. Recommended.- Was this review helpful to you?

The original 'Juno'
By a customer from Northants. , 17 Apr 2009This is a beautifully photographed film, gorgeous landscapes and a very realistic theme. Teenage angst as it was before most of us were born. Definitely recommended for those evenings in with a large glass of something relaxing and some comfort food!- Was this review helpful to you?
