Here is a prime example of messing up a film with a certain target audience in mind and not delivering what they want to see! This film barely resembles Super Mario Bros. at all and game creator Shigeru Miyamoto probably cries every time it is mentioned. The only resemblance to the games are that Mario is fat and short and Luigi is tall and thin, (although he is without moustache), and they wear red and green respectively. Oh and Bob-Ombs are still little mechanical bombs on legs. Other than this, goombas are tall humanoid retards, Yoshi looks like a flippin' raptor and King Koopa is a man! The name Bowser isn't even mentioned either. The Koopas are all evolved from dinosaurs, not turtles which is wrong and they are getting that mixed up with content from Super Mario World on the SNES. Just forget it! Don't even try to compare it to the games. If you are a Nintendo purist you will join Miyamoto in crying. I've been a Nintendo fan for about 15 years, but as I like to look at the flipside as well as throwing out bias, I will be honest and say that I enjoyed the film for what it was and not what I expected it to be. It was average, goofy and silly and just mindless family fun. I have no problems with that. Yes I'd have liked a faithful film adaptation, but would it really have worked as a live-action film anyways? Maybe more of a CGI cartoon film, (where you wouldn't have to worry about making Bowser Koopa look convincing in reality as a giant turtle monster), would suit it better.- Was this review helpful to you?

(13)Super movie bros.
By MattRae (6 reviews) from Whitehaven , 10 Nov 2011Watching it again after 15 years, I loved it a as kid and I love it now. I think it's the fact the it feels like an 80's movie in both the story telling of an adventure movie and the cheesey SFX. Love it.
P.s. they missed a trick by not making a sequel, now we're stuck with all manner of unneeded and unwanted part 2's, 3's & 4's.- Was this review helpful to you?

Just OK
By Matt19 (31 reviews) from Peterborough,England , 01 May 2010the film was not what i expected, nintendo fans will be dissappointed and no big boss Bowser or little mushroom Toad not even mentioned, apart from toad who was just a normal human and not a sultan. If you rent this and have kids, the kids will enjoy, just make sure they havnt played the Mario Brothers video games.- Was this review helpful to you?

Super Mario Bros-The Movie
By Mamapope (7 reviews) from Slough , 08 Sep 2009A dreadful film..................if you are an adult!!!!
If you are a 6yr old then much more your type of thing!!!
A surprise to see Bob Hoskins as Mario, and the Lady who plays Aunt Petunia in the Harry Potter films playing a baddie!!
Ok to keep the kids quiet for a hour or so whilst you find something better to do with your time!!!!- Was this review helpful to you?
