Broken Lizard, a comedy troupe formed by former students of Colgate University, wrote and star in the enjoyably lightweight comedy SUPER TROOPERS. They play state troopers who preside over a quiet stretch of highway in Vermont. The low crime rate allows them time to pursue their own interests--mostly playing elaborate pranks on each other and on the hapless speeders they stop. Their captain, O'Hagan (Brian Cox), asks them to settle down for a while, because the governor (an amusing cameo by TV's former WONDER WOMAN, Lynda Carter) is thinking of cutting off their funding and turning their precious highway over to the jurisdiction of the hated local cops, headed by the sneaky Chief Grady (Daniel Von Bargen). The wild and not very bright troops are unable to stay out of trouble, so they'll only keep their jobs if they somehow manage to crack a big drug case. Director Jay Chandrasekhar (who also stars as the smartest trooper, Thorny) does a great job of keeping things quick and light, and the easy camaraderie of the Broken Lizard troupe gives even the grossest humor in the film an appealingly playful quality, harkening back to the innocent days of movies like STRIPES.

This juvenile cop comedy resembles a cruder version of the Police Academy films. Written and performed by the five-man comedy group Broken Lizard — who are unknown on these shores and are likely to remain that way — this puerile affair concerns a bunch of idiotic Vermont State Troopers who enjoy nothing more than tormenting drivers with bizarre, unfunny pranks. There is a vague plot about the rivalry between the Troopers and the local police, but it's really just a series of sketches in which the lawmen behave like members of a particularly dim fraternity. Despite the odd giggle, the cast and script show little sign of comic flair, and even Brian Cox, as the Troopers' humourless boss, has his talents squandered. Come back Steve Guttenberg — all is forgiven.
Broken Lizard, an American troupe, display their lack of comic skills while wasting the talents of rather better actors in this lazy, crude comedy.
Simple yet effective, if you like Office Space, you'll like this.
Basically it's a comedy, it's stupid, it's random, it's funny, and it does it very well. The storyline picks up eventually, but the funniest part of the film is the stupid tricks the cops play on the public and each other. I really could imagine people doing things like this if they were that bored, which is where most of the humour comes into it. A great film to see if your looking for a laugh, and dont be too harsh on it, just enjoy it for what it is
Sorry, I can watch most films but this one was so bad I switched off after 20mins.
