Classic, unrivalled superhero epic
By tjhyman from London , 22 Oct 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Chris Reeve was the one and only Superman - an absolute classic movie with three distinct segments - the heavenly glow of the Kryptonian scenes (with Marlon Brando as his father), then the wonderful cornfield landscapes of the Smallville growing-up scenes (with Glenn Ford as Pa Kent), and Metropolis - where Reeve shines as the dual personality, bumbling Clark and alter-ego Superman.
His first appearance is one of the most memorable scenes in cinema history. Great performances and shot so well - this was filmed with integrity (or as Donner put it... versimilitude). You will believe. DVD has amazing extras too, 8 minutes extra footage and brand new sound effects.

What a Superfilm!
By mirosa (15 reviews) , 20 Dec 2012Why don't they make them like this any more? The violins building up at the beginning , then the trumpets I mean back then the music was composed to such a standard - it immerses you in the film from the start! 1 thing I didnt realise about this film as a kid, was the fact that what makes it timeless isnt the modest special effects by today's standard but the basic story of a man and woman who fall for each other. It is just smeared with romance and the first interview Louis Lane does with Superman when he flies down to her balcony is just beautifully done. I think this appeals to us all because every woman wants her man to be their hero and every man wants the woman to look up to him and know she will always be safe! Oh and how can Chris Reeve leave us so early? Tragedy! I mean he should outlive all of us!!! Thanks for this great memory Christopher! RIP :)- Was this review helpful to you?

Yes, a good film
By Countryboy (81 reviews) from Perthshire , 06 Sep 2012Super, man.
Really well-told story, and although some of the dialogue is now a bit cheesy, it loses little in overall impact. I remember cinema audiences cheering when Superman caught the helicopter.
Good for the kids, too.- Was this review helpful to you?

Once a classic, always a classic
By AllWeatherCamper (10 reviews) , 03 May 2012We rented this film as one of many childhood memories we wanted to pass on to our daughter.
Thankfully, she loved it as much as we did. Every bit as good as I remember.- Was this review helpful to you?
