Excruciating to watch!
By sweetmello (9 reviews) from London, UK , 09 Nov 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
I rented this title for my children, after last seeing it as a kid...I remember it being crap then, but after viewing as an adult I found it painful to watch!
Both my children enjoy the first three superman films and the new one as do I. So I thought I would rewatch the fourth one with them to complete the series...
This film is like a B movie compared to the first three..Infact it all started going downhill after superman 2 I think.
This film should have never been made. The storyline is one great big jumbled mess. The flying sequences and special effects are laughable. Even the acting is sub standard. Its like the actors knew it was rubbish and couldnt be bothered to act!.....What were they thinking even making this!!...Avoid like the plague!!- Was this review helpful to you?

(30)Different to the others
By Claudio92 (3 reviews) from Barry , 13 Jun 2011I remember watching this as a kid and enjoying it, but after watching it again I feel disappointed by it in comparison to all of the other superman films. Everything from the special effects to the dialogue was poor compared to the others. And everything just felt rushed in this film, it kinda went from scene to scene without any real direction of what it wanted the audience to experience. And to make things worse this film even forgot the rules of nature, by having a woman out in space breathing normally! I mean come on there's not even an excuse for doing that.- Was this review helpful to you?

willing suspension of disbelief
By Animism (1 review) , 12 Jun 2011It will never cease to amaze me how people pull apart movies like this. Ok so its cheesy but why people have a problem with it not being realistic is just hilarious, Has it passed by people the main character in the movie (aka Superman lol) is a guy who can fly.. wears his underpants on the outside and has poor poor fashion sense? come on guys leave your brain at the door, sit back just relax and smile- Was this review helpful to you?

You can't beat them
By a customer from Chichester , 07 Sep 2010It has to be said that Superman is the best Superhero. Whilst I agree that it isn't the best acting in the world the idea was excellent.
I think people place to much emphasis on CGI and expensive special effects and don't take into consideration that for Superman fans what is bad for some is great for others.
Don't knock it till you've tried it. I've rented it recently for a taste of the old times and it brings back fond memories of just being able to see the cables if you look closely :) To be fair I enjoyed this one more than the most recent installment 'Superman Returns'. But that's my opinion.
Gene Hackman is by far the best Lex Luthor and Chris Reeve is still the one and only superman god rest his soul.- Was this review helpful to you?
