[Highly rated reviewer]The star of the movie-within-a-movie is Cody Maverick, a pint-sized penguin with a king-sized dream of becoming an international surfing champion. To that end, he leaves his home in Antarctica and ventures to Hawaii to take part in the Big Z Memorial Surf-off, a competition held in honor of the surfing legend who was washed away by a giant wave during a previous contest, never to be heard from again.
This flick was filmed in a similar fashion to Incredibles (camera diary scene type thing) and also has some 'old sepia' footage thrown in as well.
It was an OK film but didn't really shine. It moved pretty slowly and the kids kept asking when the film would finish fairly near the end, I think they'd had enough. It was nicely animated and pretty and all the usual, but the plot wasn't all that great. Don't get me wrong, it is worth seeing but don't expect too much. The main underlying message is 'Winning isn't everything', and it's just as well as this isn't likely to win anything.

Thumb's upBy RJNeb2 (1012 reviews) from London , 23 Apr 2010An unexpected delight in amongst the welter of penguin documentaries and cartoons, this cannily fuses the two and becomes a spoof mockumentary in gloriously detailed CGI. The tale of a young penguin who wants to become a champion surfer, it features wobbly cameras, vintage footage, some good jokes and great characterisations to make a highly enjoyable movie. The different camera stock footage comes across particularly well in high definition.
dishearteningBy terrieandpeter (20 reviews) from england , 03 Feb 2010i personally was looking forward to it as i enjoy cartoons just as much as any other but this one did not seem as good as other grapgical based ones, not as funny as we thought it would be but does have good moments here and there, children will love it thoughq!
FUNNYBy fiddleann (27 reviews) from Bournemouth , 31 Dec 2009This was great, really enjoyed it. Surfer that need a good laugh and to check out that great wave would be they ones to understand the movie and get a great laugh. I just loved it and my boys thought it was the best.
