Surviving The Game Details

Another variant on the shopworn manhunt premise, best exhibited back in the 1930s with The Most Dangerous Game. This time, rapper-cum-thespian Ice-T is a homeless derelict conned out of the city and into the wilderness to act as prey for a bunch of thrill-seeking high rollers including Gary Busey's ex-CIA agent, F Murray Abraham's Wall Street executive and Rutger Hauer. Well, what would a film of this type be without good old Rutger? Former Spike Lee cinematographer Ernest R Dickerson brings technical bravado to the proceedings, but the whole premise of wealthy whites hunting homeless blacks is morally tasteless and this is only saved from perhaps deserved obscurity by an interesting cast. Ex-Police drummer Stewart Copeland provides the music soundtrack.

This is yet another remake of Richard Connell's The Most Dangerous Game Ð and one that lacks drive or suspense as it strolls through very familiar territory.
