Most helpful review
a goldie but outdated
By a customer from coventry, england , 08 Sep 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Before your x-men and spidermen were starring on the big screen, One mr. wes craven made a movie about a scientist turned in to a biological monster made up from marsh plants exacting revenge on the terrorists that made him. A very out dated film special effects look like something made by blue peter but the plot of revenge and hero conquers all is there just a shame you can tell its a rubber diving suit covered in green paint okay but dont expect much.- Was this review helpful to you?

By Nedvadead (86 reviews) from Ballymoney , 26 May 2012Took me back to my child hood. I thought it was far better then. Now its Just an average B movie with a silly plot and A Team like fight scenes.- Was this review helpful to you?

A time-waster, at best...
By Clownwitch (6 reviews) , 04 Mar 2012I can't imagine many viewers having the stamina to watch this cheap B-movie the way through - despite it being a mere hour and a half. What could have been an intresting swamp-based variation on Frankenstein is instead a dull action-adventure. The stunts are no more impressive than an average episode of The A-Team, and nor is the acting. The camera's obsession with Adrienne Barbeau's breasts is as obvious as the titular monster's rubber costume. The comicbook - especially Alan Moore's work on it - is infinetly superior.- Was this review helpful to you?

Oh well, worth a punt...
By whitniverse (2 reviews) from London , 20 Feb 2011I only added this to my rental list as I'm currently reading Alan Moore's critically and fan acclaimed run on the Saga of Swamp Thing comics. *There* is proof that comics can be seen as an art form, as with Moore's first issue he blew the world of american comics wide open. This film (which came before Moore started writing Swamp Thing, turning the mythos of the character on it's head) fails to capture even a tiny part of the charm and/or excitement of the characters early days, instead reducing Swampy to a monster v monster mash-up, gonzo horror, titty fest. (Note, there is only 1 scene with breasts. That I recall.) At least I can say I've seen it. But never again :-)- Was this review helpful to you?

Proof that even a master has his bad days
By MrBenn (24 reviews) from Liverpool , 05 Oct 2007If you're looking at 'Swamp Thing' thinking 'ah, a Wes Craven comic book movie - awesome!' Sorry to have to disappoint you... this is bad, bad, bad. Midway between an episode of The Incredible Hulk and The Toxic Avenger, but without the irony. It's cheap, it's badly constructed, and it's very silly indeed. Swamp Thing looks like an extra from Troll 2, for goodness sake.
Still, it earns kudos for the presence of Adrienne Barbeau and her chesticles.- Was this review helpful to you?
