GREATEST COP SHOW EVER!
Being a new young London Police officer, I was constantly asked by the more senior 'old sweat' coppers if I was familiar with The Sweeney. When 'No' was my reply, looks of shock and horror were forth coming!
So I took it upon my self to hire the complete 1st series and what a show!
Im totally hooked almost 30 years after they were first aired on British TV. Everything from the classic catchy theme tune to the customary foot/car chase in each episode, this is truly one of the great british police drama shows.
The Sweeney more commonly known as 'The Flying Squad' is a true elite team of London Police officer who deal solely with mojor heists and bank robbries.
The two lead characters Insp Jack Regan and his sidekick Sarg. George Carter take to the streets with such brute force and style it is reminisant of Gene Hackman and Roy Schieder in The film THE FRENCH CONNECTION.
The Sweeney was the first cop show to have its scenes filmed live on location throughout the streets of London.
Although the setting and scenes appear very much dated from the cars to the clothing, the storyline however still remain original and gripping.
A highly recommended serires for anyone Police officer or not! -

The Sweeney was possibly Britain's best ever police show, superbly combining realistic action, tight plotting, convincing and authentic acting and great dialogue. This disc has three great episodes from the first series. An exercise in fond nostalgia. Recommended.

IT WILL NEVER BE EQUALLED
This is the definitive British Cop Series and will almost certainly never be equalled in the quality of the scriptwriting,fabulous leading cast and guests stars who obviously loved every minute.
John Thaw and Dennis Waterman have an instant chemistry which carries throughout the series.
It also hasn't really dated, despite the different fashions and cars of the 80's.
If you want a real treat from the current crop of ridiculous American style camera up-your-nose,flash-back, nonesense that passes for drama on the box these days, put your feet up with this great series. You'll find that you love it. -

Seventies A1+++
It shows why so many people stayed in on a Saturday night.

Sweeney TV at its best.
The Sweeney fast and exciting, it brings back memories of the seventies when you could talk without walking on eggshells.
If you are a teenager or in your twenties, this is a series, you must see because, with political correctness it would be impossible to make a show like this to-day. -

brilliant series
you will never get a series like this again it will have to be something brilliant to beat this is which i dont think it will ever be done as john thaw was a brilliant actor and you will never get another man like that ever

3 classic Sweeneys and 1 awful extra
Only die-hard John Thaw fans would want to sit through 'Thick As Thieves', the extra feature on this disc which has three great Sweeney episodes from the first series. 'Thick' applies to the thieves themselves as John Thaw shacks up with Bob Hoskins's wife while he is in prison. When he gets out, the comedy .... well, I guess the writers thought it was a great sketch.
Watch the Sweeneys. Marvel at how, in the absence of mobile phones, a large part of police work in the 70's was taken up in finding a public phone booth! -

shame they forgot to remove where the adverts came in, maybe they forgot the sweeney was made by ITV then Thames Television, you get 20 Sec braks in the episodes (x3) in being 'end of part one ( wait 10-15 secs ) Part two'
