Sugary confection that promises to be a sophisticated screwball comedy but turns into a romance in love with the simple life.
This is a good chick flick they would be impressed there are a few funny moments in it for the fellas so its one to keep the women happy while not sending the blocks to sleep
then this is the film for you.............funny, happy, sentimental and a touch of sadness......
I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
No violence, no foul language, no graphic sex scenes, just a good old fashioned love story!
Well acted with enough humour to make the film enjoyable rather than sickly sweet.
this dvd was so good!!! there was nothing about this movie i didnt like. a film i could watch over and over.
I, like another of your rewiewers, initially thought that the part of 'Jake' was played by Matthew McConaughey - but it is not!!! It is, in fact, a guy by the name of Josh Lucas! I only realised my mistake when I was watching 'Secondhand Lions' (in which he has a small part) and found myself desperatly trying to remember where I had see this face before!
Everyone goes on about Reece Witherspoon's performance in this film, but I have to say that I feel that she could not have pulled it off if it had't been for her two leading men.
Both Patrick Dempsey and Josh Lucas give fabulous performances in their respective rolls. In fact the whole ensemble is far more skillful than you give them credit for because they mesh together as a community almost seemlessly. You really do care about these people - you can see them growing up together, every memory that is talked about is almost painted before your very eyes.
The film is a 'ChickFick' I'm afraid, but is good fun to watch and very easily portrays the dilema that 'Felony Melanie' finds herself in.
The antagonism that you feel between her and 'Jake' is palpable at the beginning of her visit to Alabama - but you can also see just why she fell for him in the first place and why she is finding it hard to leave him behind.
All in all a good film to watch. I just wish that Josh Lucas was in more films. Those big blue eyes allow you to drown quietly and completely - especially when you see him in the 'Deep South Glass' montage.
Hmmmm........ happy dreaming!!!!!

It was a very sweet movie! Interesting to see the DVD extras, like alternative endings etc.
Thoroughly enjoyed by all. Reese was great.
This was ok, I like reese, she's pretty, and a very good actress who's characters vary a lot! Definately worth a watch!
Now our long summer has ended and the nights are drawing in, this is the perfect film for an evening of snuggles at home. Reese is endearing as usual balancing a hard exterior with mush inside. She faces the ultimate choice - wealth and status in New York or true love in a hick town in Alabama. It cant be denied that this is a chick-flick but well worth watching for anyone. If you and your partner are in need of a snuggle fest or even if you just want a feel good movie on your own then close the curtains, put the fire on, pull up the sofa and a box of chocolates and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. I dare you not to smile from ear to ear by the end...
If its cold outside, and you have a cold bottle of chardonnay inside and a couple of free hours one evening, then this could be the choice for you. Saying that the plot's predictable may be an understatement, but it's still a fun movie. The acting's good and the music was a pleasant surprise. This may not be a movie to put at the top of your rental queue but it's still worth watching if you have the free time.
My daughter and I really enjoyed this movie it was one that you could just watch and not try to follow a plot! Great for a girlie night in!
I tried ignoring this film when my wife began playing it, but something really caught me. It contains sufficient plot angles to keep you interested.
It's no critics choice, but it's great family entertainment. When you've seen all your favourites, add this to cheer yourself up.
