Good Family Viewing - But ...
By a customer from Maidenhead, UK , 20 Oct 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a wonderful disney adventure that has some really nice paradise island scenery and hot sunny weather to boot!
The whole family really enjoyed watching this movie but... this dvd release lists itself as a widescreen feature, but this isn't a proper widescreen version.
It's a extra-wide cinemascope format in a 4:3 regular tv frame. Meaning it's letterboxed on normal tv, but a really small match-box size image on a big plasma 16:9 screen. You will need to use the zoom option on your dvd player's remote. However, this reduces the quality of the image.
Maybe, I'm just picky, after spending lots of ££££'s on a good home cinema setup and was left slightly disappointed with the dvd format.
Overall, still recommended for renting.- Was this review helpful to you?

A little creaky, but has its moments
By Jim_E (7 reviews) , 23 Feb 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
I saw this as a kid and loved it, so I rented it for mine to watch (they're 5 and 8) and the 8-year-old really likes it, but his little sister thinks it's too long. It does seem slow, compared with today's kid's movies (we're all big Pixar fans in our house). The family's treehouse is great (I was inspired to rent this after visiting the house with the kids at Disneyworld last summer) and the big pirate battle (which is what I remembered best) is rather over-shadowed by the spectacle of Pirates of the Carribean. Basically, if you're kids can sit through Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks, they will probably like this, but if they get bored with those after 10 minutes, they'll want this one off after 5.- Was this review helpful to you?

Disney jungle romp
By RJNeb2 (922 reviews) from London , 19 Sep 2011Plenty of adventures and incidents befall the eponymous family when they are shipwrecked on a desert island. Sadly, director Annakin manages to make most of it really flat, extracting shrill performances from most of his cast. Its certainly bright and colourful with a rather juvenile attitude towards pirates. Fun for kids.- Was this review helpful to you?
