First Drew Barrymore tried to divorce parents Ryan O'Neal and Shelley Long in the comedy Irreconcilable Differences, and now we have this more serious look at the subject, which is actually based on a true story. Gregory Kingsley (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is the 12-year-old who is tired of being shunted between his estranged parents and foster homes. His solution is to take his family to court so he can divorce them and be formally adopted by his foster parents. Director Linda Otto tells this potentially sensational story without lapsing into melodrama.
Thoughtful and well acted family drama.
