The massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics is the starting point for this TV action movie from director Michael Anderson (Logan's Run, The Quiller Memorandum). Steven Bauer is the commando, assigned to head an anti-terrorist squad to avenge the murders, and the strong supporting cast includes Michael York as an explosives expert and Colleen Dewhurst as prime minister Golda Meir. As entertainment it works well, though inevitably it will leave audiences divided on the morality of these revenge killings.
The movie was too long and quite slow moving, but very suspensful, so it will keep you watching till the end.
Basically how an israeli mission gets botched up.
Overlong, slow moving and dated.
Despite these criticisms, the film sensitively portrays an Israeli officer's dilemas as he struggles with hia conscience, when his government calls on him and his team to avenge the deaths of the Israeli athletes massacred by terrorists at the Munich olympics.
Based on a true story and raises the problem of how governments respond to acts of terrorism against their citizens.
Worth a watch.
