Sword Of Honour

Daniel Craig plays Guy Crouchback, a soldier fighting with the British forces in the Second World War, and the drama charts Crouchback's grappling with the ravages of war, his relationship with his ex-wife, and his own shortcomings. Not a patch on the book - but OK

My wife and children, who have not read the book, enjoyed it as a drama about the war with a bit of love interest. I know the book very well and so was disappointed that in a film so long - 191 minutes - so much was still missed out. There was also mis-casting. Leslie Phillips cannot do Mr Crouchback and Apthorpe was not the callow youth portrayed in this film. I still remember the BBC's version in the 60's with Edward Woodward as Guy as the definitive version.
