Finest NHS satire - simply brilliant

This is essentially the 'Father Ted' for the NHS - a bitingly sharp satire of the medical establishment that takes some of the typical aspects of hospital life, puts them under the microscope and magnifies them so much that the laughs come thick and fast even when they show up some of the less savoury aspects of NHS medicine. But alas, the series came when major changes were already under way and I guess that is why we will only ever have this one season. The days of excessive Junior Doctor hours are fading, Consultants are no longer powerful 'Gods in White' and even waiting lists are no longer the matter of desperate jokes anymore. We have lost an era but retain this series as one of its dying highlights. As a comedy it's brilliant, as an observation of the time it's sharp and as a love letter to the NHS it's both scathing and reaffirming at the same time.
