This masala melodrama has the distinction of being the first Bollywood production to make it into the top 20 of the US box office. It features Akshaye Khanna as a millionaire's son who vies with music tycoon Anil Kapoor to defy class prejudice and the ruthless materialism of modern society in order to win the heart of folk singer Aishwarya Rai (who won the Miss World 1994 contest). Previously best known for Pardes (1997), director Subhash Ghai borrows liberally from such recent blockbusters as Dil Se, Bombay and Dil To Pagal Hai to fashion this delightful star-crossed romance.

    The film or the music...?

What can I say about this film? It became a commercial blockbuster when the film was released in 1999. The music by AR Rahman certianly helped to hype it up, and why not; the music had broken records in everyway - fantastic! The film is not a let down, either. The storyline is strong and Aishwariya's performance shines, even till now. Anil Kapoor's role was pivatol, but nothing was enhanced about it. I would recommend this film to people who enjoy the music, or to those who like Subash Ghai - well worth a watch!

    A modern romantic 'musical'

brilliant music with good acting and a decent storyline. Could watch/listen again and again. Those who saw Bombay dreams will know where the original scores come from.
