Slow-moving comedy that fails to get much mileage from its tired central idea.
When this originally came out in the UK it was known as Filofax. For whatever reason, the DVD incarnation has been released with the name it was known as in the USA. Same great film though. Good fun, you can't help but like it.
I remember seeing Filofax (remember them?!) as a teenager and loving the farcical nature of it. I rented it as a blast from the past and wasn't disappointed.
This is a bright, funny madcap adventure, almost better and more 'escapist' now I'm a fully fledged adult...
The acting is first-rate - from Belushi and the guy who plays Spencer (is it Charles Grodin?). The set decoration, costumes and home furnishings will take you back to 80s (?) luxe; it all looks a bit dated now but that's what great...
The opening titles are great - very 'of the time' ... similar to 'Mannequin' and 'Ruthless People' - both recently viewed and highly recommended.
So, in short, if you're a 32 year old teen, like me, give this a go. It's not highbrow by any means but it'll put a smile on your face - rent it!
I remember hiring this from Blockbusters Video store way way back. When I hired this it was called 'Filofax' but I take it it was given it's other title as our colonial cousins didn't know what a filofax was!
This is one of those films you never see on TV, and never hear of again, which is a shame as I think it is a great film, albeit a definate 80's one.
James Belushi plays to character and as always you end up rooting for him. You just know it's all going to work out in the end but this is a perfect film to watch on a wet, miserable Sunday afternoon.
i remember watching this when it had the title of Filofax. James Belushi is brilliant
James Belushi displays all his usual comic bravado as a prisoner trying to get out of prison to go to the baseball World Series. They've always called it The World Series when only America played baseball! Charles Grodin turns in his usual performance of the browbeaten, overworked and undervalued but ambitious type. Offset these two with the mature beauty of Veronica Hamel as the despairing wife and the perky, young and sensual presence of Loryn Locklin and you have an exercise in relationships. Insert Hector Elizondo as the conniving prison governer, determined to prevent Belushi from achieving his goal and Belushi's strategems to get away and you have some first rate comedy. Add in two visitors from the future, Star Trek, see if you can spot them - not difficult. Very enjoyable. Kick off your shoes, pour a drink, sit back and laugh.

This is a great sit down, eat a chinese and enjoy no brain work required feel good movie! Highly recommended.

One of the best comedies i have ever watched.
The on screen chemistry between stars James Belushi & Charles Grodin is second to none.
The plot always reminds me of Trading Places, so if you ever watched that then you will love this movie.
Rent it today, you will not regret it.
Rubbish. We thought this was so dull and unfunny. Slow moving, boring...I could go on but you get the gist. I'm afraid we lost the will to see it all the way through...after a while, we decided it would be more interesting to comb the grass!
