Outstanding game that will sadly disappear into obscurity

Tales of the abyss is a fantastic entry in the Tales series of RPGs that are beloved and well-known since the PS1 in Japan but almost unknown in the west.
Only a small number of the series have ever been translated, but luckily Tales of the Abyss is one of (if not the) best in the series. Like all other entries, you control a cast of four characers across a massive world filled with charcters and quests, controlling them in awesome realtime battles that play out more like an action game than the stuffy combat systems of most japanese role-players.
The story is surprisingly good for the genre, with some genuinel surprising twists and turns, neat philosophical discussions on the nature of fate and some genuine examples of beleivable character development.
The graphics look a little dated (this is a PS2 game from 2006 that didnt exaclty look that good back in the day..) but they look clean and good enough and the pyrotechnic effects in battle look fantastic in 3D, as does the rest of the game.
Its ust a shame that this great game will be overlooked by all, as the chowderheads at namco decided to only print about 10000 copies of this game for europe. Youll be lucky to find a copy for under £80 andits hard to recommend at that price!
Still, any fan of RPGs with 3DS will love this game.- Was this review helpful to you?

(3)Alright, but not great.
By ZestyReviews (4 reviews) , 19 Jun 2012+ Battle system is fun and can get quite tactical at times.
+ Looks lovely!
+ Lots of content and lengthy story.
- Story is rather confusing so I got a bit lost.
- Can get a little dull.
- 3d effect isn't fantastic, but still nice.
- Easy to get overwhelmed with every little detail.
It was an okay game, Ive wanted to play a proper rpg for a long time but I was little disappointed with the confusing story at times, and It didn't really keep me motivated to play it.
'Tales of' fans will enjoy it im sure. =)- Was this review helpful to you?

Outstanding game that will Never sadly disappear into obscurity
By a customer , 07 Jun 2012True that the Tales of series is declining with Tales of grace F on the PS3 (Wii japan only) would perhaps be the last Tales of game to hit these shores however others would be still released exclusively in Japan only, similar to Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 and 3 Japan only, this is because sales simply dont yield enough in the western market.
As for this game, the second-hand market would always have it is stock, Ive seen online second-hand retailers have more then 26 in stock, obviously because of the limited quantity release of this game means prices like £40. 00 to £50. 00 for a second-hand copy.
Look at masterpieces like Zelda TP GC version or skies of arcadia GC version thay sell on the second-hand market for like £80 to £120 again because of the limited quantity release
If you liked this try Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology PSP- Was this review helpful to you?
