Tanguy review

20th March 2005
Although credited as being made in 2004, this little French gem of a film was actually made in 2001.
Paul and Edith are a wealthy, middle class, middle-aged Paris couple. They live with their son Tanguy in a gorgeous apartment, and seem to want for nothing. Except Tanguy is 28 years old, and shows no sign of fleeing the nest...
Az?ma and Dussollier are hilarious as the frustrated parents, moving from quiet frustration to ever more frantic desperation in their attempts to 'encourage' Tanguy to move out. The chemistry between these two performers is lovely (witness their temporary respite during Tanguy's trip to Bejing).
The conclusion is rather limp in comparison to what goes before, but that aside, this is a wonderfully bitter French comedy, and highly recommended.
