John Cusack and Tim Robbins each put enthusiastic effort into this 1988 NBC production, but its fractured plot, unlikely set-pieces, terribly mimed music performances and lack of genuine laughs undermines the immense talents of both.

Despite an eclectic array of cameos from Sam Cooke, Junior Walker, Coati Mundi, Ted Nugent, Jello Biafra, Stiv Bator, Weird Al Yankovic and Doug E Fresh, the soundtrack is typically (and therefore painfully) 'American Eighties', and this, together with a weak supporting cast and barely noticeable chemistry between the leading actors, makes for a very disappointing package indeed.

A movie barely deserving of its comedy categorisation and definitely one for the Cusack and Robbins completists only.
