Just as high-octane as its commercially successful 1998 predecessor, this frenetic sequel reteams daredevil Marseille taxi driver Samy Naceri and laconic cop Frédéric Diefenthal, with the screenplay again by Luc Besson. However, it benefits considerably from the snappier direction of Gérard Krawczyk, who not only keeps the plot ticking over, but also injects a Hollywood gusto into the action sequences (including one in which the ultra-customised cab sprouts wings). My flatmate ordered this and I was initially put off by the subtitles, although a stereotypical view I just assumed anything with subtitles would be an esoteric art house type film. I stand corrected!
Its more an action film than anything else, but that doesnt really do it justice the film is intelligent and doesnt rely on action sequences to maintain the story although when they occur they are suitably fast paced and well thought out. The story is involving, there are some very funny moments and the character Daniel is very likable as the put upon cab driver.
Highly recommended!
not as good as the first outing, but some very funny moments non the less, the opening scene is hysterical! worth watching both this & the first one just so you can see how hollywood botch it up as they no doubt will, as they have ruined so many foreign films in the past(they have queen latifa as the cabbie?)
less demanding than most foreign films too, french cinema losing its arthouse style for once, but still showing the american movie factory how to do it with penache.
