Ok, so I initially had...By a customer from NEWBURY , 30 Mar 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]Ok, so I initially had doubts about this one. My French is a long way from perfect and I thought that would spoil the whole film if I was constantly staring at the subtitles. Not so! From start to finish I found this to be as captivating as any other film of the same genre of any language.
The plot is simple. There are bad guys in fast cars and our unlikely hero is needed to help the police capture them regardless of not actually having a drivers licence. The action is fast and the car chase/stunts are very well done. Unlike other car orientated films (Fast & Furious and so on) the plot isn't too serious and their is a good deal of humour to lift the story.
I found this to be a fast, fun and funny film - even though I didn't understand a word of it!

Fast paced funBy Sezzle (49 reviews) from Worcester , 25 Sep 2009What fun - a film that puts together a grumpy cop who can't drive and a lovable fast-talking criminal who drives on the edge of the law. The relationship between the two is captivating, and car chases are hair-raising. The language is simple so that despite the subtitles no-one should have any problem keeping up. My only complaint would be that the chase at the end when they finally might/might not catch the criminals after all doesn't really live up the promise of the rest of the film: they could have made more of the scooters and had more fun.
PoorBy Bobulousmous (9 reviews) from Richmond , 20 Sep 2009Possibly the worst film I have seen in a while. No plot, no acting and not even that many fast cars. Just a peaugeot and mercedes. Really bad.
TaxiBy TheLightBreeze (1 review) from Glastonbury , 27 Aug 2009In the original French with subtitles, this is a masterpiece. However, I received the dubbed version - I managed about 5 minutes of it before having to give up. I've never seen a film so ruined by Dick Van Dyke type english voiceovers! Please watch the original!
Luc Besson doing what he does best.By RelentlessRob (57 reviews) from King's Lynn , 05 Aug 2009Comedy. The Rene Juliene stunt team makes this film supreme. How could the Americans get it so wrong. Available with dubbed English I personally wouldn't bother as the subtitled version is just better. If you speak French well you will notice a few creative interpritations with the subtitles (probably to keep the certification at 15) and laugh a second or so sooner than your subtitle reading friend. Simply an excellent film well worthy of five stars. Hope you enjoy it Rob
not great cinema...By C1LS56 (161 reviews) from Tunbridge Wells , 03 Mar 2009...but quite watchable.
They must really enjoy taking the mickey out of their police in France - This is another one based upon the Gardarme's ineptitude.
For me, it was a shame that it was dubbed rather than subtitled, but I suppose that's a personal thing.
I didn't feel like it had added anything to my life having watched it and with so many good films around, I have to say 'why bother'?
