The 1998 French smash gets the Hollywood treatment in this rowdy reworking from Barbershop director Tim Story. With Luc Besson again attached as producer (he also wrote the original), this takes the knockabout stupidity to new levels. Thrown together by fate, useless New York cop Jimmy Fallon and speed-demon taxi driver Queen Latifah try to nab a gang of female Brazilian bank robbers, headed by supermodel Gisele Bundchen. All screeching brakes and no real excitement, this buddy movie is just a series of car chases linked together by tragically unfunny comedy. While Latifah's wannabe racing champion has an easy charm, not to mention all the best lines, Saturday Night Live comedian Fallon's dumb, Pee-wee Herman-style shtick is annoying and tired. But it's the gimmick of leggy lady felons that grates quickest, making this paper-thin farce even more superficial.

    Rent the original

'Taxi' joins the list of excellent French films badly mauled by Hollywood (Nikita to name but one). Rent the original, then cry as you read the description of this remake. Queen Latifah ffs!

Taxi 2 is also worth watching, but don't expect too much of a plot. Nice panties though.

    Zut Alors!

SNL Comedy with no link to French Originals

If you choose to compare ?Taxi? with the original French film the remake will not come out positively. The French film was a sassy action/comedy flick that had some of the best chase scenes committed to celluloid. The remake is a buddy comedy movie similar in vain to other Saturday Night Live comedies such as ?The Ladies Man? and ?Night at the Roxbury?.

Fallon plays an inept cop who loses his car license so he joins forces with a speedy taxi driver, played by Queen Latifah, to get him to crime scenes.

If you are a fan of lower brow SNL comedies then this is great fun as Fallon's self-deprecating character plays well alongside Latifah?s no nonsense taxi driver. However, if you are looking for the class of the French titles they are almost polar opposites and this film will do nothing for you.

A film for fans of the new wave of slacker American comedies.

    What did you expect?

It does exactly what it says on the tin, and this is no worse than any other Hollywood comedy rubbish a la 'Sister Act 2' etc. For any of these weirdos getting really pompous saying, 'oh the original was much better', believe me that was a flimsy piece of cinema also, at best. This is just a really light hearted cops and robbers romp with a super-powered Taxi and some 'hot chick' criminals running around new York, nothing too taxing or academic? It even has a happy ending -my god, how bleak?! so I can’t really understand the backlash? If you want something with more substance and your still up yourself with 'hmmm I prefer the French original' try something by Fellini or Goddard, not ‘Taxi’ for Christ sakes…. What were you people thinking?

    An easy film to watch.

I thought that this was going to be a stinker, but after a slightly dodgy opening few minutes, it got going and is a genuinly funny film, with one or two real laugh out loud moments.

An easy film to watch if you are not in the mood for too much mental stimulation..

    Massive disappointment

Much like the travesty of the Italian Job remake, this is an insult to the brilliant original. Please go get the French original version instead.

    Doesn't deserve even one star

Who told Queen Latifa she could act? As remakes go this has to be one of the worst! Prime example, the opening sequence has Queen Latifa supposedly cycling through New York city being timed for a route, well a good comparison against the original until you see some fat (C)rap singer when she takes off her helmet and we are supposed to believe she was the rider and then the movie goes downhill (imagine the steep slopes of mount everest if you will), this 'comedy' isn't funny, the only really funny bits were the outakes at the end. Final thought from me is that Giselle must be desperate for fame to do this flick, and she also should stick to what she is good at and not talk just pose!

    Watch the original!

This film is so bad, it's just a typically terrible Hollywood version of a good French movie, watch the original, even if you don't like subtitles.

    It's Only Fun...

... have a drink and enjoy.

It is purely lighthearted entertainment. So sit back and have a laugh.

It seems to me that it has been taken far too seriously, when it is obviously aimed at the red blooded male!

I mean, the whole film is worth it just to see Jennifer Esposito get frisked. A brazilian supermodel doing a body search on a latino beauty. I certainly enjoyed that!

Put your brain away and take it for what it is.
