  • This is NOT another formulaic war/action movie

    Rated - 5.0 stars

I had to write a review on this movie beacause:

    1) You have to be inhuman to view this as a formulaic 'seen it all before' movie

    2) It is easy to forget what 'ethnic cleansing' really means - what you would face if you lived in a village being 'cleansed'

    3) This is a different Bruce Willis

    4) I'd not heard anything about this movie.

This is an amazing movie, and the only one todate where I have immediately started to watch it again, only with the directors commentary on it. This film is not about some political message, but about the brutality faced by many Africans during the conflicts in Rwanda and Nigeria (amongst others) as part of rebel forces carrying out ethnic cleansing.

You will be seriously moved by this film, and yes there is that tiny bit of cheesey 'schmultz' at one point (present in most American films), but it doesn't attract from the heart-thumping tension you will feel in the first 30mins of the film. Go and watch it - this is the best movie I have seen in 2004.

  • Bruce the hero wins through again!

    Rated - 4.0 stars
    By Ricia (153 reviews) , 15 Mar 2013
Thank goodness they make films like this to show what really goes on in places like africa and other places, and this is only a mild version of what really happens. Bruce willis as always is the focused hardened war torn hero who you know will win through no matter what. It is a little far fetched in places like why could the rebels not hear the helicoptors or the refugees creeping through the jungle, but at times singing at the tops of their voices! But that aside it was a harrowing account of what should have been a 'normal' mission.

  • Where did the ammo and razors come from

    Rated - 1.5 stars
By pbenson (1 review) from Manchester , 25 Jan 2013
Oh dear. Cheesier than a cheese toastie with cheese on it. They go in for a 5 minute mission and discover a hidden stash of ammunition in their underpants that lasts them for days of conflict. The other side of 300 lacked the ammunition but had plenty of razors in toe. Funny to see Brucie all unshaven (and very grey) and the African rebels closely shaven as they follow through the jungle. Even Brucie was surprised how fast they caught up with him and he didn't even know about the shaving ritual. It's a good comedy and spotting the mistakes will keep you going for ages but don't make it a drinking game unless you are well stocked

  • American cheese past its sell by date.

    Rated - 0.5 stars

This was American cheese with a capital C. What’s more, the cheese was well past its sell by date. Bruce Willis, a lieutenant who calls his commanding officer by his Christian name (I know it’s no longer fashionable to use that word but I’m using it) is a man who breaks the rules. So much so his curled lip freezes when told to return to base. No Sir, we have black people to save, he is thinking, because here in the US of A we like to show them we love them even if the US Navy is sticking it’s nose into an old British colony. They really should stick to being run out of Mogadishu. However, our aged Lieutenant and his fellow Seals want to die in Operation Impossible and most of them do. Never mind, the Captain goes to meet Lieutenant Courageous and pats him on the back instead of clapping him up in irons for disobeying orders and having more than half of his men ending up in body-bags. A few Africans are saved and so is the film because Monica Bellucchi is in it. This Italian beauty was the only thing in the film worth watching. Of course she falls in love with Bruce Willis. Who wouldn’t? The man of action has the most attractive curled lip you’ll ever witness on celluloid.

Very good film and a must see for all Bruce Willis fans. Not as good, as I hoped it would be though. I think that there could have been more to it

  • Bruce takes on Nigeria - No contest

Typical vehicle for Brucie baby .

Plenty of close ups of the man - thinking - macho - working it out . But..... and you know what's coming... Our Man decides against all odds to go against all logic .... Cannot say more without spoiling but ... I really enjoyed it ... Shoot 'em up stuff with a Hollywood ending that doesn't disappoint .

Do yourself a favour and have a look you won't regret it !!!
