Tekkonkinkreet

From the creators of Animatrix comes this visually-stunning new anime film based on a popular Japanese manga written by Taiyo Matsumoto. In Treasure Town, where the moon smiles and young boys can fly, life can be both gentle and brutal. This is never truer than for our heroes, Black and White, two street urchins who watch over the city, doing battle with an array of old-world Yakuza and alien assassins vying to rule the decaying metropolis. Tekkonkinkreet is a dynamic tale of brotherhood that addresses the faults of present day society, true love lost, and the kindness of the human heart.

    simply exqusite

i didnt know much about this movie when i rented it, id saw a review in a magazine give it 5 stars and that was enough for me. they were not wrong. this movie is awesome. its so exquisite, the story is multilayered and engrossing and the animation is second to none. they have truly created a magnificant world in this movie with such intrecate details throughout. every scene is full of so much detail and imagination that brings the whole thing to life. it is incredible to watch. the characters are fleshed out well and are truly likeable, well obviously not the 'bad guys' who were suitably dislikable. when i finished watching it and the credits rolled, i immediately felt giddy and couldnt wait to watch it again to see some of the details id missed first time round. its definately one of my favourite movies of all time. dont rent it... BUY IT. you wont regret it.

    Pretty and entertaining but unaffecting

Amazing looking animation in this film but as so often with this kind of thing the plot holes left me unable to truly connect and buy into what was going on and that meant that the experience was ultimately unfulfilling. It was entertaining enough but during scenes when the viewer was obviously supposed to be experiencing a deep sadness in sympathy with the characters it was hard to care that much.
