The 39 Steps is a ripping yard for boys. This version (written by a woman) has been completely feminised. Richard Hannay in the book is a tough heroic thoroughly British character . In this dreadful remake Penry-Jones pouts his way through the film looking like a big girls blouse rather reminscent of Private Pike in Dads Army and in the end has to be saved by a much tougher woman. Oh please! Each of the other three film version of this yarm have their good points. This has none. I can't wait for the same team to remake Zulu in which a group of British soldiers have to be saved from the native army by a bunch of female social workers. This film is utter tripe. Avoid at all costs!- Was this review helpful to you?
