Fantastic... I've not laughed so much in ages
It's crude, lewd and rude, but also hilarious
What a fantastic surprise. I went to see it because there was nothing else on and was looking forward more to the popcorn than anything else.
You really think it is going to be pathetic but the main character is played so well that you start to like him and then slowly empathise with him. You begin by laughing at him but pretty soon your laughing with him.
The rest of the cast is also great and very funny.
It reaches a hilarious cresendo and the the closing credits hit you at which point you have diet coke streaming down your nose.
Go see it, rent it or buy it.
This film made me laugh out loud on several occasions, I was prepared to be let down by this one but was very surprised. Not many films classed as a comedy seem to be consistently funny throughout and many only manage a few laughs here and there. This one I would watch again, so if you want a good belly laugh catch this one.
This film is excellent. It takes a little bit of inspiration from your standard american buddy movies (road trip, old school etc) and rolls it together with a huge dollop of english humour, often reminding me of a funnier and lighter version 'High Fidelity'. The script is surprisingly intelligent and the main character is a great deal more endearing than your usual standard american comedy. I found the story touching and extremely funny. Steve Carell is simply superb in the lead role, but the majority unknown supporting cast are also excellent. Ignore the reviewer that was complaining about Will Farrell - the guy isn't even in this movie!! - and also the atmosphere is nothing like a normal Farrell movie. This is warm, intelligent, funny, endearing and a great way to spend 2 hours.
Absolutely brilliant, i cannot believe this was so funny. i had heard good revies about this film, but i was really impressed. Great Stuff
good funny film
you feel 4 the guy when its dicovered he is a virgin.
alot of what happens is predictable but fun keeps u smiling with a few good laughs.
would watch again

Steve Carell, who has in the past few years stolen the show from people like Will Ferrell and Jim Carrey, is the life and soul of this surprisingly touching romantic comedy, which, put simply, is one of the funniest and most original rom-coms in absolutely ages.
Not only are its characters convincingly drawn, but it never veers into the kind of surreal idiocy that almost killed films like 'Anchorman'. No Star-Trek spewing dogs here. Of course, theres no denying its crude- with a title as blunt as the 40 year Old Virgin you cant exactly expect subtlety- and it goes overboard in one or two places. But otherwise, the gross-out humour seems to have a point within the storyline; not just the put in anything involving genitalia and bodily fluids logic that pervades randy teen comedies like 'American Pie'
But in the end, aside from the inspired one-liners, colourful supporting characters (like Mooj, the profane Middle-Eastern shop assistant) and amusing set-pieces (Carell having his chest waxed), its the two central performances from Keener and Carell which give the film such unexpected emotional credibility.
And when youre saying a film called the '40 Year Old Virgin' has emotional credibility, thats high praise indeed, welcome to the unexpected joy of the year.
A must see for people who like to laugh. This film had me in tears from laughing too hard all the time. A great comedy with halarious moments. Rent it now : )
Enjoyable and with some very funny, sometimes painfully funny scenes.
Overall it feels as if the film tries a little too hard to cram in too much and the film does drag a little towards the end.
Watch it, enjoy it and move on.
Saw this film because there was nothing else on at the cinema. It surprised me. It's like a group of college friends got together and decided to make a film. It works mostly and I enjoyed it. The actors are likeable and underneath the crassness it's goodnatured.
It does tend to drag towards the end but when the credits start to role the scenes during that are so ridiculous that we found it absolutely hilarious at the time.
A genuinely enjoyable and, despite what the title implies, a healthily, warm hearted, revealing script and likeable performances.
Well cast, particularly the lead role recognisable as the star of the American version of "The Office" who radiates a kind of mooncalf innocence that enables the script to hurl a mass of indignities and humiliations at him.
With a great supporting cast, a few pithy insights into the gender war where it seems no-one really knows anything and some superb extras (Watch the waxing scene if you dare!) this is a lot of entertainment that comes highly recommended.
Watch it twice, you may miss some of the gags through uncontrolable laughter.
I found every other word became a swear word in the film. If the writers of the film had to put in so many four letter words in the hope that it would somehow make it funnier, then they were wrong in my opinion. This is one for the boys mostly, but the lead character was a likable chap that most girls could relate to. I think it would have been a far better film if the writers used more imagination and less swear words. I would recommend it only to teenage boys.
A little obvious with its story line but if you want to laugh then watch the film
