Enough ham and cheese for a picnic
By Clucky from Cardiff, Wales , 17 Mar 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a highly entertaining black comedy that manages to combine a surreal plot with over-the-top, camp performances. Price plays the devious Dr Phibes, a man driven to avenge the death of his wife, whom he believes was murdered by the incompetent hands of doctors during an operation. The film essentially focuses on the macabre killing methods used by Dr Phibes in his search for justice and whilst this sort of thing may not to be everyone?s tastes, they certainly provide some memorable scenes (check out the unfortunate who suffers Death by Sprouts). Thoroughly recommended for fans of Price (who revels in his ludicrous character) and for those who enjoy off-the-wall movies.- Was this review helpful to you?

(32)Vincent Price strikes again!
By GofWarks (60 reviews) from Radford Semele , 01 Feb 2012Sequel to 'The Abonimable Dr Phibes'. Set mostly in 1920's Egypt, Vincent Price is playing the part of a homicidal maniac who is killing off the members of a rival egyptological expedition. Despite the subject matter it is darkly humerous in many places.- Was this review helpful to you?

phibes, which one?
By juradino (811 reviews) from London , 31 Jan 2012Set in 1920s and based on Hebrew curse it is terrifying story of zombie revenge and guess who has the last laugh. Made by American International in 1971 it might seem slightly dated as their main output in late 50s and early 60s often based on Edgar Allan Poe's stories looks revisited with original story but ageing actors. It had sequel so it did catch on and there is at least one scene that makers of SAW movies must have ripped off (been heavily influenced by) and you will be able to spot it straight away. Original title was Dr Phibes and names of characters in it help to elevate its sense of humor. Some may not like it if it reminds them of Fantomas because of its masked duplicity.- Was this review helpful to you?

Wonderfully camp fun
By Martyn72 (6 reviews) , 07 Dec 2011My partner kept on about this film for ages. Myself I am not overly keen on these old 'horror' films, however this film was fantastic, very art deco in its design with humour, wit and a wonderful performance from Vincent Price. Thoroughly recomend it, if like me you like classic films with a touch of camp.- Was this review helpful to you?

A little too silly...
By StueyMiller (6 reviews) , 08 Sep 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
Colourful and bizarre, but sadly for my taste, a little too silly. Vincent Price delivers, but sadly there is a lot of hammy acting which also lets it down.- Was this review helpful to you?

Terribly Dated
By a customer , 25 Apr 2011I had forgotten just how bad these old horror films were! What amazes me is that we used to think films like this scary.
How times have changed. Not sure if for better or worse?- Was this review helpful to you?
